Two Vessels One Walk to Work Campaign

In 2012 TSG Marine delivered a “Walk to Work” (W2W) support package to facilitate essential maintenance on two fixed platforms in the North Sea. TSG Marine were engaged early in the planning process and provided project management services throughout the project lifecycle.

The project involved two sister ships being fitted with different gangway access systems. This approach allowed for real time comparison of the two W2W systems.

TSG Marine provided vessel auditing support during the vessel selection process, to ensure the vessels met the relevant regulatory requirements and the client’s specific requirements.

The gangway systems were fitted at 22 and 24 metres above the vessels’ main decks to achieve the most desirable gangway connection angle. TSG Marine designed the support structures and associated sea-fastenings, which included the installation of mezzanine decks.

TSG Marine’s support structures and sea-fastenings were built under survey and class approved by DNVGL. The two vessels were mobilised simultaneously in 10 days, which included the fabrication of the mezzanine decks and gangway support structures. In addition to vessel auditing, engineering and project management support TSG Marine also supplied the W2W safety equipment required for the personnel transfers. This included lifejackets, personal locator beacons (PLBs) and associated tracking equipment.

During the offshore campaign the day to day W2W operations on board both vessels were managed by TSG Marine. W2W Representatives (W2W Reps) acted as POB controllers, managing the information on the W2W transfers in the POB control system. In addition, the W2W Reps delivered gangway, lifejacket and PLB training to the W2W personnel.

From vessel selection assistance through to vessel demobilisation, TSG Marine provided knowledgeable pragmatic support and innovative solutions to the inevitable challenges of an offshore campaign.
